Malahat, BC is officially home to one of the trendiest tourist attractions in the province, the Malahat SkyWalk.
Opened in 2021, the Malahat SkyWalk is a 600-metre tree walk described as “the ultimate natural high.”
The attraction takes you through a beautiful arbutus forest, leading to a spiral ramp that has you climbing 32 metres to a 360 degree lookout point with the most incredible views you can imagine.
At the top, visitors can see far and wide, allowing you to marvel at Finlayson Arm, Saanich Peninsula, Mount Baker, and even the distant Coast Mountains on a clear day.
Malahat SkyWalk’s lookout is 250 metres above sea level, so you can bet that the views are truly spectacular.
The attraction’s official website recommends spending roughly 90 minutes here, between the climb to the top, time at the lookout, and the return to the bottom. There’s also a picnic area, café, and shops on-site. There is even a Nature Trail at ground level that takes you through the surrounding forest.
If you would prefer not to walk back down once reaching the lookout, you’ll also have the option of sliding down. That’s right, the Malahat SkyWalk has a 65 foot tall and 165 foot long slide running down the middle. Anyone over five years of age is invited to take a turn.
The Malahat SkyWalk is open daily from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm, with the last admission at 5:00 pm. Tickets cost $31.95 for adults, $28.95 for seniors, and $18.95 for children (kids under 5 go free), and can be purchased online.
Overall, the entire route through the TreeWalk and to the lookout is 2.2 kilometres in total.
A little over half an hour from Victoria, the Malahat SkyWalk is easily accessible and is certainly worth a drive out of the city.
