Victoria’s fabulous Royal BC Museum has a great line-up of events planned this summer. From exploring the mysteries of Egypt to chilling out for an afternoon at the Food Truck Festival, the Royal BC Museum is the place to be this summer. Here are a few not-to-be-missed events…

Beach Time
Explore the beach with curator of vertebrate zoology Dr Gavin Hanke and invertebrates collection manager Heidi Gartner at ‘Fieldtripper: Seine’. They will identify the fish and invertebrates that live just beneath the waves. Meet at the north end of Willows Beach in Oak Bay on Saturday, June 16 at noon. Participation is by donation.

Think Like an Egyptian
Dr Dennine Dudley, seasonal instructor at the University of Victoria, is giving a talk on Egypt’s 18th dynasty on Thursday, June 21 at Newcombe Conference Hall. The ‘Mystery, Majesty and the Mundane in New Kingdom Egypt’ lecture will feature intriguing figures like ‘the female king; Hatshepsut, ‘the boy king’ Tutankhamun’ and ‘the enigmatic king’ Akhenaten. She’ll be discussing shifting political allegiances and complicated family dynamics while referencing artifacts in the Egypt: The Time of Pharaohs exhibition.

Date Night
Join the Royal BC Museum’s panel for a participatory discussion at ‘It’s Complicated: Dating Can Be Queer’. Take part in this conversation about navigating dating while incorporating gender and sexual fluidity. This free event takes place on June 28 at the Newcombe Conference Hall.

Fabulous Food Trucks
The Food Truck Festival will be taking place at the museum’s cozy back courtyard until August 31. Open from Sunday to Thursday from 11am until 6pm and on Fridays and Saturdays until 7pm, this is a great way to enjoy some great street food (and a drink on Saturdays and Sundays) while enjoying the summer sunshine.

Star Struck
A travelling display, Dominion Astrophysical Observatory: The First 100 Years, is on view in Clifford Carl Hall until the end of June. This small, 10-panel exhibit presents the amazing story of its founder, construction and some of the major contributions made to our understanding of our galaxy and universe.
