Eat local food in Victoria!

Autumn will soon be upon us, and even thought that means it’s time to put away the sandals and pool floats, we’re looking forward to the amazing local food that becomes available during the fall harvest season. Lucky for you, you don’t have to venture to the orchards or the pastures to taste delicious seasonal food. Victoria has a great selection of farm to table restaurants that bring the flavours and freshness of our local farms to you. Check out a few of our favourite farm to table restaurants in Victoria below:

10 Acres Bistro, Commons, and Kitchen

10 Acres Bistro, Commons, and Kitchen are the extension of the 10 Acres farm in North Saanich, which grows most of what the restaurants serve on their seasonal menus. The 3 locations all offer ever-changing, farm-to-table dishes that are nutrient-dense and easy on the environment. Their philosophy is that nothing is wasted: soups and stocks are made from the bones of 10 Acres’ own ethically-raised farm animals, lard used in pastries are made from the fat of pigs raised on the farm, and even the flowers on the farm are used to decorate the restaurants’ tables. Whatever isn’t grown on 10 Acres’ own farm is sourced from other local farmers and fishermen, so your food is always as fresh as can be.

OLO Restaurant

OLO, located in downtown Victoria’s historic Chinatown neighbourhood, believes in “sustainable farming practices, seasonality, and knowing the stories of the growers.” Their seasonal menus are always changing and evolving to reflect the produce available in the surrounding area, and they are proud to source from a wide variety of local produce, dairy, and livestock farms, as well as local fishermen and foragers. Try something off the dinner menu or prepare for a feast with OLO’s tasting menu, a communal culinary experience that will allow your whole party to taste what the local harvest is all about.

Nourish Kitchen & Cafe

Nourish was opened to make farm-to-table dining accessible. The owner, Hayley Rosenberg, believes that fresh, local cuisine doesn’t need to be exclusively a fine dining experience. Nourish Kitchen & Cafe offer breakfast, lunch, and cafe menus that feature delicious, local food in a beautiful yet casual atmosphere. If you want a bit more of a traditional dining experience, go to the Dining Room for breakfast, brunch, or lunch and have a sit-down meal from the rotating seasonal menu. If you fancy a quick bite with a friend or just want to get some work done while sipping on tasty coffee, check out the cafe for a relaxed version of the farm-to-table experience.

Best Western Plus Carlton Plaza is conveniently located in downtown Victoria, making it easy to check out Victoria’s food scene no matter where you choose to go. 10 Acres 3 concept locations are all a 10-minute walk away from our hotel, OLO Restaurant is just around the corner (a 5-minute walk away), and Nourish Kitchen & Cafe is just a leisurely 20 minute walk away. At Best Western Plus Carlton Plaza, there’s no shortage of great restaurants (and great ingredients!) all around us, and we look forward to sharing that with you.
