A new holiday skating rink has officially opened in Victoria.

Located at Saanich’s Uptown Centre, the outdoor synthetic rink is 18 metres (or 60 feet) long.

To announce the opening of the new skating rink, the Uptown Centre enlisted the help of professional figure skater and TikTok star Elladj Baldé.

Last Wednesday, December 1st, Baldé laced up his skates to christen the brand new rink with some of his signature moves.

The rink opens to the public on December 7th, with tickets available for purchase online. Opening hours are 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm daily between December 2021 and March 2022.

Twirling around on the rink costs just $5 and skate rentals are available for $2 (helmets and skating walkers for children are also available). Even better, 50 per cent of all proceeds from the rink will be donated to 1Up Single Parent Resource Centre, as well as BC Disaster Relief in the wake of the devastating floods that continue to impact the province

General admission tickets guarantee a spot on the ice for 40 minutes, and a maximum for six guests are permitted per booking.

Finally, The Rink is just one of the holiday activities that the Uptown Centre has in store for holiday shoppers this year. In addition to the festive holiday skating rink, this Saanich mall will also have a 16-metre high Christmas tree decorated with thousands of lights towering over the square, as well as illuminated igloo-like domes lining Uptown Boulevard. The domes were created to offer a warm and cosy spot to relax after shopping or skating.

If you plan on visiting Victoria this winter, then we recommend heading up to Saanich to experience Uptown Centre’s new skating rink in person. And if you need a place to stay during your trip, you’re always welcome at the Best Western Carlton Plaza Hotel.
