Let your inner-child run wild in Victoria this August, as the Royal BC Museum celebrates all the nostalgia of summer camp! The esteemed institution is running a series of Grown-Up (no kids allowed!) Day Camps for those of us who like to go behind the scenes and have a good snoop around. Here are four ways that you can act like a big kid at the museum this summer…

1. August 11: Arts and Crafts Day Camp
Explore the human history collections, engage with historical crafting tools and learn how to make cedar bark crafts. Sneak behind the scenes and meet the museum’s knowledgeable staff.

2. August 18: Campfire Histories Day Camp
Discover the power of object-based storytelling by exploring the exhibitions and collections. Visit Helmcken House, go behind the scenes of the BC Archives and learn how museums uncover historical narratives and perspectives from primary sources.

3. August 25: Nature Merit Badge Day Camp
Learn how museums grow and care for diverse natural history collections and experiment hands-on with specimen preservation methods.

4. August 26: Night at the Museum – Grown-Ups Only
This is the first time the museum has hosted a sleepover for those over the age of 19. There’ll be nostalgic camp crafts, an opportunity to explore by flashlight and – of course! - ghost stories around the campfire. Add to that food truck delights, live entertainment and grown-up drinks for sale – and ditching the kids with the grandparents never looked quite so tempting!

Each Grown-Up Day Camp takes place from 10am to 3pm and costs $50 per person. Tickets for the Night at the Museum sleepover cost $80.
